Curt Overway, CFA, President
Mr. Overway serves as president of Active Investment Advisors, a division of Natixis Asset Management Advisors, L.P. Prior to joining Natixis, he was a vice president and principal at Jurika & Voyles, an investment management firm and a subsidiary of IXIS Asset Management North America now known as Natixis Global Asset Management.
Previously, Mr. Overway worked as a financial analyst in the Municipal and Corporate Financing group at USL Capital. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley. He also served as an officer in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Overway is a CFA charterholder.
Kevin Maeda, Chief Investment Officer
Mr. Maeda is chief investment officer of Active Investment Advisors. Previously, he was a senior portfolio manager and product manager at Barclays Global Investors. He managed the International Equities Portfolio Management Group, a team of 15 portfolio managers responsible for $40 billion in index portfolios and mutual funds. Mr. Maeda was the launch portfolio manager for 17 of the BGI iShares exchange-traded funds.
Mr. Maeda holds a BS in industrial engineering and operations research from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles.
John Bearce, CFA, Senior Vice President, Business Development
Mr. Bearce joined Natixis in September 2001 and has been in the financial services industry since 1997. Prior to that, he was with Putnam Investments in the roles of retirement plan specialist, product support specialist, and financial analyst.
Mr. Bearce earned a BS in finance from Suffolk University and a master’s degree in finance from Suffolk University. He is a CFA charterholder and is a member of Boston Security Analyst Society and San Francisco Security Analyst Society.
Serena Ng, CFA, Assistant Vice President, Portfolio Manager
Ms. Ng is Assistant Vice President and a portfolio manager for Active Investment Advisors. She was previously assistant portfolio manager at Fremont Investment Advisors where she managed enhanced index portfolios benchmarked to the S&P 500. Ms. Ng graduated with a BS from the University of California, Los Angeles. She also received the Finance Certificate from UC Berkeley Extension. She is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Society of San Francisco.
Dr. Burton Malkiel,1 PhD, Chemical Bank Chairman’s Professor of Economics, Princeton University
Dr. Burton G. Malkiel, the Chemical Bank Chairman’s Professor of Economics at Princeton University, is the author of the widely read investment book, A Random Walk Down Wall Street. The book has played an important role in helping institutional and individual investors evaluate the use of “index funds”. The revised 9th edition of the book was published in 2007. His latest book From Wall Street to the Great Wall was also published in 2007.
Dr. Malkiel has long held professorships in economics at Princeton, where he was also chairman of the economics department. He was dean of the Yale School of Management and William S. Beinecke Professor of Management Studies from 1981. He is a past appointee to the President’s Council of Economic Advisors. In addition, he serves on the boards of several corporations. He has also served on several investment management boards including the Investment Committee for the American Philosophical Association. He is a past president of the American Finance Association and the International Atlantic Economic Association and is a member of the American Economic Association.
Dr. Malkiel is also the author of over 125 articles and is the author or co-editor of eight other books, the most recent of which are The Random Walk Guide to Investing: 10 Rules for Financial Success and Global Bargain Hunting: An Investor’s Guide to Profits in Emerging Markets, with J. P. Mei. .
Dr. Malkiel received his BA and his MBA from Harvard University and his PhD from Princeton University. He began his career in the investment banking department of Smith Barney & Co.
